Well I admit that I’ve been looking forward to this edition for like 100 years. However, I will not be able to partake. I broke my collarbone at the Tour of California and there’s just no way I could be 100% in time for the Big Show. It’s been a bit depressing knowing that I won’t be there for the team – especially this year that there’s 3 Time Trial events, including a Team Time Trial. The Team Time Trial is maybe my favorite event. I can go fast in an individual time trial, but I can go even faster in a Team Time Trial with that tiny bit of recovery. It’s truly a rush when you can keep the speed really high by working so perfectly with the others on your squad. There’s also a special feeling working together in the TTT with everyone expecting the most out of each other. You just don’t want to let your teammates down so you dig just a little bit deeper in a TTT.
I’ll be cheering with the rest of the crazy fans while I’m on the mend. I’ve been healing well and I’ll start up again with the Tour of Utah, then do the Tour of Colorado, and the Canadian races to build up for the World’s Team Time Trial in Florence Italy. Meanwhile, I’ll be shouting at the TV over the next month. And when the kids are out, and a Garmin rider is in the break, my TV will likely take a bit of verbal abuse.
