You are an inspiration DZ. I have been a competitive cyclist and vegan for 4 years now and during that time I have had everyone from coaches to doctors tell me it was a bad idea, but I knew better and now seeing one of my heroes of the sports turn vegan and continue to kick ass is something I think about daily on my rides. Good luck in France.
Cheers,
Austin
Hi David, I’m a vegan biker, running in amateur races in Italy, I train 15 hours a week, and I’m vegan since 12 years. Go for a wonderful Tour de France, wish one day i’ll see you once again on the yellow jersey like 2005!
Go David!
ps
you don’t need fish to get the iron, my iron is perfect and never ate fish in last 12 years.
Wishing you luck Dave! Glad being vegan is working for you. Show them what plant power can do for you!
Dave,
I’m curious about the recipe for your vegan protein shake. Where can I find it?
Have fun at the Tour!
Mike
It is great that you have become a vegan. I am vegan for twenty years now (I have not gotten sick at all since then) and have read much about veganism, and for this I know that veganism is by far the healthiest way of feeding. Congratulations for your decision to embrace this wonderful lifestyle!
Hey Dave, I met you years ago in Berkley, gave you directions on where to ride while you were in town. I was vegan back then. Glad to hear you are eating fish, particularly given your inflammation issues. The omega 3′s there are different than plant based Omega 3′s, in as much as the are longer and highly unsaturated, two to three more double bonds than hemp. Right around the corner there will be plant created omega 3′s equal to fish sources. Good for the fish and vegans.
Congrats on a winning TTT!
Dave,
As one who hovers on the vegetarian/vegan line, I’m going all in with a vegan diet during the Tour. Great win in the TTT yesterday. Hopefully you can snag the ITT too!

Hey Dave!
I’m very happy about your decision. I’ve been vegan doing lots of sports for 5 years now and I feel better than ever! I know how many badly informed “experts” are telling you otherwise. Stay strong, and go get them!
Dan
Hello, Dave!
I’m vegan for 12 years and professional cyclist here in BRAZIL! I have 28 years and I’m very very happy about that’s notice! I hope the tour be great to you! Cheers and maybe we can have make a event with all vegan cyclists around the world!
Bye!
Greetings Dave,
Bad luck with the crash. Hope you can salvage your season.
I was under the impression that Robert Millar (3rd & KOM 1984) was vegan or vegetarian for most of his career. As an insider could you confirm this?
Thanks
Hi Dave,
I wish you continued good health on your plant-based diet, are you using four servings of Vega Health Optimizer
per day? That would be 4,400 mg. of calcium, that does
not sound healthy for a man. Mark
