The TOC should start tomorrow…we’ll see…
The wind is starting blow pretty hard, something is coming our way and I’m pretty sure it’s not Mary Poppins.
It could actually snow tomorrow and I hope it does. Wouldn’t that be a hoot. If it is just a really cold rain there is little chance of any change to the stage and it will likely be very, very cold for us.
Regardless, it’s so nice to be up here in the mountains and to be racing in America again. I spend a considerable portion of my race year in Europe, most of which I love, but its so refreshing to be back home, training and racing in the US.
I’m rooming with Thor again. There was little doubt about that happening. In fact, I think he wrote it into his contract that he gets a sufficient amount of ‘DZ-time’ throughout the year. When we hit our room we both commented that unlike those small Euro hotel rooms, the space in the US rooms is quite nice, and there’s never a need to pry the beds apart before we go to sleep every night.
It’s kind of fun walking through the casino to get to the team meals. I’ve always been a Rain Man fan so I like to imagine myself grabbing a little extra coin while I’m here. The problem is that I’m not much of a card player or a gambler so I usually just put a dollar in the machines in a sort of random fashion just hoping for the best. You may not be surprised to learn that there’s been no crazy flashing lights and sirens going off to indicate that I’m the next jackpot winner.
Today, after our training ride, we went to a place called Sprouts for lunch. I had a rather nice spinach bowl and in the back of my mind I could quite clearly see Popeye nodding with enthusiastic approval. Tonight we will have our first meal on the team bus and I’m really looking forward to it. I think it’s one of the things I enjoy most about this race: sitting in the big camper with the guys, eating good food, laughing, and talking about bikes.
