Today I did the Mike Nosco Memorial ride that began in Thousand Oaks, CA. The event was in memory of Mike but all the money raised is going to the young, Andreas Knickman, who is fighting cancer and is the son of Roy Knickman. Roy was one of my first coaches in cycling. I finished high school and went to Colorado Springs to live at the OTC (Olympic Training Center). Roy was the national team coach at the time. He took me to my first world championships in Spain. As juniors we didn’t get much and I remember Roy giving me his jacket because I got 4th. I still have the jacket. It was nice to see so many people come out to support the ride and in particular the Knickman family. It was an honor for me to attend.
I also reconnected with a few people from my past on the ride who I’ve lost touch with a bit over the years. It was unexpected and really cool to see them again. The ride itself was amazing, perfect weather, well supported and nice people everywhere. I don’t even think we had any angry car incidents today. I met Ben Bostrom for the first time and the man is a machine on the bike and is very knowledgeable about nutrition and being vegan. Came home and laid on the grass with the family, enjoying every second of it.
