The Tour of Spain starts tonight for me at 11:04 pm. That’s right, 11:04 pm. It’s a 13km TTT in Sevilla Spain. It seems a bit late to start a race that late but this is Spain and that’s how they do it here. I’m sure everyone will go have dinner afterwards. The high temps during the days here have been around a 115 F. We have been training on the same road out and back for the last 3 days it’s very desolate and full of throat burning smells.
I just watched the movie “The Road”. I find myself scouring the gutters of the road for useful material if all of a sudden the apocalypse comes. There’s plenty of plastic bags and bottles.
Last night we did the team presentation. As always, we showed up hours before kick off and waited around for our 20 seconds on stage. Got to see Inigo Cuesta as I was leaving. He is going to get to wear #1 this year as he has done more Vueltas than anyone. I’m not sure of the number but I think it’s between 15-17. This will be my 3rd Vuelta. The last time was 2004 when I almost killed myself with a big solo break away that succeeded to the line.
