Flew home from Vegas Interbike just in time to pack the bike and bags for Challenged Athletes Foundation Ojai Valley Challenge. I hadn’t seen my boys for a few days so they were pretty hopped up on daddy being home. We all drove up to Ojai and hit the pool until it closed down at 10pm. Then the kids passed out and so did I. That’s the goal: work em till they sleep! I just feel badly for the people at the hot tub trying to have a nice quiet evening when we showed up with the crew.
Got up early for a 7am roll out. We had 100 miler on the program for the day and really high temperatures. It’s very inspiring to hear the challenged athletes stories and always gets everyone fired up for a great day. It’s one of the most amazing things to see them in action. There was a hand cyclist named Oscar “Oz” Sanchez who was going 50+Mph on the downhills! I rode next to him for a bit on the flats and he could just cruise at 22-25Mph — amazing! We made our way to Gibralter and climbed up the mountain. It’s only the second time I’ve done the climb — it was a much nicer pace this time. The last time I did it I gave Ryder shingles. We got to check out the new bike path on the 101 from Santa Barbara to Ventura. It’s protected and pretty incredible. As we left the coast and went back inland to Ojai the temps were climbing rapidly and we slowed down just as rapidly. We finally made it back and cold beer never tasted so refreshingly good! Thank you CAF for all that you do.
